Uncover mystery, history and gruesome tales

Descend via the creepy stairwell into the very depths of this ancient city to be greeted by some terrifying and hilariously horrific characters from Scotland’s bloody past. The cast of incredible actors will take you through the underground warren of stages, scenes and special effects which will make your visit a day to remember. You’ll be able to touch, meet, hear and smell the unique scary dungeons of ‘Auld Reekie’ (a famous nickname for the city).

Incorporating two amazing underground rides, you’ll laugh, jump and scream your way around the attraction. 80 minutes of thrills - from the ridiculous to the downright creepy await you as you come face to face with a host of unsavoury and sinister characters. Get up close and be careful you don’t contract the devastating plague which wiped out many of the Old Town’s residents in the 17th century. You might even meet the legendary Burke & Hare for a bit of midnight grave robbing in the name of science. Some of their later victims never even got the chance to be buried – in fact – they were in perfect health before a run in with the duo of desperadoes.

Who you’ll meet on your visit

You’ll need to brace yourself on your walk back to your hotel near the Edinburgh Dungeons as many of the characters you’ll meet once frequented the darker corners and closes of the city – some of which you may even pass through, remaining almost unchanged since the days of crime, plague and pestilence.

Take a walk through the courtroom but be careful not to annoy the Judge when you’re in his courtroom. Get your hats off and show some deference or you might find yourself getting the rough edge of his tongue for crimes as minor as having a bald head.

Join your fellow visitors and the king’s men on a subterranean boat ride to hunt the legendary Sawney Bean and his family of crazy cannibals. You’ll be transported to the caves of the Galloway coast where Bean and his hungry relatives made a feast of weary travellers. It’s a barbeque you don’t want to attend.

Edinburgh is known for being the home of hard-working individuals from all across the world, but you’ll be lucky to find anyone who enjoys his job more than the famous torturer. You’ll be astounded at the pride that man takes in his chamber. He’ll be looking for volunteers as well, so come prepared.

Amongst the cast of gruesome ne’er do wells and rapscallions, there are none more frightening than Edinburgh’s ‘green lady’. Scotland is in turmoil and another year of unrest is upon us as the second Jacobite rebellion gets underway. You’re invited to the mysterious Old Craig House. It’s a good area of the city, a far cry from the plague-ridden streets of the Old Town. You will hear the tale of revenge, betrayal and death which makes the story of the Green Lady Edinburgh’s most terrifying tale.
